Improve high temperature gear pump life

The faults in gear pump operation are divided into four types: corrosion and wear, mechanical failure, performance failure and shaft seal failure. These four types of failures often affect each other and are difficult to separate. For example, the corrosion and wear of the impeller can cause performance failures and mechanical failures. Damage to the seal can also cause performance failures and mechanical failures.
 
  Mechanical failure
   Vibration and noise are the main mechanical failures. The main cause of vibration is bearing damage, or cavitation and poor assembly. For example, the pump and the prime mover have different shafts, the foundation stiffness is not enough, the foundation sinks, and the piping is weak.
 
   performance failure
  Performance failure mainly refers to accidents such as insufficient flow rate, insufficient head, pump cavitation and overload of the driving machine.
 
   Shaft seal failure
   Corrosion and wear
The main reason for corrosion is improper selection of materials. When corrosion failure occurs, it should be solved from both the medium and the material (see Chapter 6 of Chapter 2). Wear often occurs when the slurry is transported, and the main reason is that the medium contains solid particles. For transporting slurry In addition to the use of wear-resistant materials for the filter parts of the pump, the shaft seal should be flushed with clean liquid to avoid intrusion of impurities, and flushing facilities should be used in the pump to avoid clogging of the flow passage (see Chapter 5, Part Two). In addition, the wearing parts should be replaced when the amount of wear is constant.
 
   Measures to improve the operating life of high temperature pumps
   1. As the pump body runs under high temperature, hinged support should be provided on the piping during cold installation to prevent the piping from shifting after heating.
  2, the coupling must be thermally aligned after the pump body heats up to avoid additional torque during operation.
  3. The outlet pressure measurement point of the high temperature gear pump should be set to interlock to stop the alarm, otherwise, once the discharge pipeline is blocked, it is easy to cause damage to the pump body.
  4. When the pump is started, when there is no pressure at the outlet, the speed cannot be increased blindly to prevent premature damage to the shaft or bearing.
  5. When cleaning and pipetting, do not use the pump to transport the cleaning solution. The internal parts should be removed and installed after the pipetting is completed to prevent foreign matter from being mixed into the pump.
   6. The temperature of the heat medium jacket of the pump body can be slightly lower than that of the front and rear jacket pipes. Because the melt viscosity has a decreasing function relationship with the shear rate, the extrusion of the gear and the shear of the bearing will increase the melt temperature by 3 to 5°C after passing through the pump. Lowering the heat medium temperature can prevent the melt from degrading. The data shows that by reducing the temperature of the bearing area, the bearing capacity of the bearing can be greatly increased. There is no need to replace a large-capacity pump. The output capacity of the gear pump can be increased by 50% only by increasing the speed.
  7. The speed increase should be carried out slowly. Do not make the front and back pressure rise sharply, so as not to damage the bearing or block the lubrication channel by the melt.
   8. The melt filter behind the outlet of the high temperature gear pumps should be replaced regularly, and do not run at high pressure or even the upper pressure limit for a long time.
